John Christian Kuntz: Missing Years and Birthplace

Our immigrant ancestor John was born 24 Nov 1824 in Grand Duchy of Baden, Germany. He arrived in the US in 1851 and settled in Louisville, KY. No ship records currently exist online that chronicle his voyage to the US. The court book which held his initial petition asking for citizenship has been lost. The church records for his marriage and the baptisms of his children have been lost. Finding John's birthplace is the highest priority. Without it, we cannot trace the Kuntz line beyond the borders of the US. We are also unable to place his whereabouts between the years of 1888 1900.

Joseph Kountz: Where did he go?

Born the eighth child of our immigrant ancestor John Christian Kuntz, Joseph would have come of age and entered employment around 1890, and we should have started seeing him mentioned in directories and census records. His family left Louisville around this time, spreading out to Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee. We don't see any mention of him after the 1880 census. We do know he died prior to 1921, as he is not mentioned as surviving his mother's obituary.

Theodore V. Kountz: Where is he buried?

Born the sixth child of our immigrant ancestor John Christian Kuntz, Theodore left Louisville in 1890 for Indiana, and then Ohio sometime prior to 1900. There he married Julia Mcgovern, who passed away in 1927. Theodore had bought a plot for both he and Julia in St. Joseph's cemetery, where Julia now rests. Theodore moved to Indianapolis immediately following her death, and moved in with his brother Harry, where he stayed until his death. Records can not be found of his burial in Indianapolis. He has a stone in St. Joseph's where his wife is buried, but it was bought with the plot, and he is not buried there. His death is assumed to be in 1931, as he no longer appears in the Indianapolis directory following that date, and he is not stated as living in his brother Nicholas' obituary from 1932.
